(906) 341-3200Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital (SMH) is an independent state-of-the-art, 12-bed, critical access hospital which has been in operation since 1950. In 2013, the hospital moved to US Highway 2. In 2022, the hospital completed a 12.8-million-dollar expansion project which added a state-of-the-art Rehabilitation & Aquatic Therapy Center, new infusion suites and a co-located administrative building.
The work of its permanent staff includes physicians, specialists, certified physician assistants, nurse practitioners, behavioral health therapists and a nursing team—is supplemented by visiting specialists in Pediatrics, Oncology, Neurology, Audiology, Dermatology, Neurology, Vascular Interventional Radiology, and Obstetrics who visit the area for regular appointments. For optimal efficiency, the Rural Health Clinic is attached to the hospital. The Behavioral Health Clinic is located offsite but in Manistique and our second Rural Health Clinic is in Naubinway MI.
The wide spectrum of services includes: a 24-hour/day physician staffed Emergency Room, Cardiology, Otolaryngology, Physical, Occupational, Speech and Aquatic Therapy/Rehabilitation, Cardio-Pulmonary Care, Pulmonology, Medical Imaging, Laboratory Services, Home Care and Hospice, Sleep Laboratory, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Outpatient Wound Clinic, Psychiatric Medical Treatment, RediCare and Rural Health Clinic. Its surgical program includes Orthopedic, Podiatric, ENT, Urology, General, Bariatrics and Ophthalmology, operating in two of largest operating rooms in the Upper Peninsula. Many caregivers are cross trained across disciplines to deliver care as needed within the hospital’s flexible plan.
